WoW Shadowland Hallow’s End Guide

Hallow's End

The season of screams and spooks is back in 2022. Hallow’s End is the Halloween celebration of World of Warcraft. As a yearly event, it mostly remains the same every year, though some additions and changes exist. In 2022, it seems to be the same as last year’s. Still, even without additions, there are many activities to do during the event. You’ll lose many rewards if you don’t do all of them. Then again, it could take two runs of the event to get every prize, and some years might add to it. This guide to Hallow’s End in Shadowlands for 2022 will teach players what they need to earn every reward.

Hallow’s End Activities

Trick or Treating

No Halloween event is complete without this classic activity. Specific NPCs are waiting for (gullible?) adventurers looking for treats in the central hub towns. Unfortunately, this activity rewards an average of 2 event currencies, which means you must go to every available city to get the most out of this activity.

Headless Horseman

This is a 5-man boss encounter that has the chance to drop the event-exclusive mount, among other things. Though you can only battle him once a day, you can do it again using another character. The only restriction is the level, as the mount only drops for characters at level 50 (starting from last year) and above. Otherwise, they get a random box with a smaller reward pool.

There are many guides and strategies on the internet, so check those out if you’re having trouble. Partying up with friends should also help.

Candy Buckets

During the event, there will be candy baskets scattered all over Azeroth. Interacting with them will give you a variable amount of treats. Make sure to click on all you find to maximize your gains! It’s best done when you’re also traveling for a quest. You could pay them a visit purposefully, but it’s more time efficient to multitask a little bit.

Event-Only Quests

Some quests are not repeatable and are only available during the event. In return, they give higher yields of treats, making them worthwhile. They depend on your faction. The Horde’s quests center around ruining the Alliance’s celebration while the Alliance tries to prevent that.

Wickerman Buffs

The Wickerman Festival grants a buff to players if they witness their faction leader watching the burning Wickerman. A city wide-announcement comes every four hours. 10 minutes later, the faction leader will buff nearby players.

For Horde, it’s the Decree of the Dark Lady. It’s an hour-long buff that increases stamina and mastery. The Alliance version is Greymane’s Resolve, with the same effects and duration. Both buffs will persist through death.

You can get another buff from the Wickerman, Unburdened (Alliance), and Grim Visage (Horde). Both will increase experience and reputation gain by 10% for 2 hours. Use the ashes on the bonfire to get it. The experience boost only works on mobs, but the reputation one works for everything. The latter even stacks with other bonuses, such as Diplomacy.

Rewards and Achievements

The treats mentioned throughout the article are called Tricky Treats, the event currency. The arrival of the garrison decorations in 2015 added the Spooky Supplies. You use them to exchange for various prizes. The prizes are different transmogrification materials, pets, or fun toys. Spooky Supplies are for the garrison decorations, and any extras can be exchanged for Tricky Treats.

Here are the most notable prizes:

Pets, Mounts, and Pet Transmogrifications

  • Ominous Pet Treat
  • “Mad Alchemist” Costume
  • “Lil’ Starlet” Costume
  • “Yipp Saron” Costume
  • Naxxy
  • Magic Broom
  • Sinister Squashling
  • Feline Familiar
  • Cursed Birman
  • Widget the Departed

*The Horseman’s Reins are not included because those are dropped from the boss and can’t be exchanged for Tricky Treats.

Player Disguises (all are Exquisite Costume Sets)

  • Xavius
  • The Lich King
  • Deathwing
  • Grommash

Heirloom Upgrades

  • Ancient Heirloom Armor Casing
  • Timeworn Heirloom Armor Casing
  • Weathered Heirloom Armor Casing

Toys

  • Horse Head Costume
  • Horse Tail Costume
  • Little Wickerman
  • Headless Horseman’s Hearthstone

For a breakdown of how much you need to get achievements and the essential rewards:

  • Pets will need 750 treats.
  • The toys cost 600.
  • About 323 for achievements related to Hallowed Be Thy Name.
  • An additional 48 for the rest of the achievements.

That’s a total of 1,721 Tricky Treats. However, you can get lucky and get some of these items from drops, which lessens the burden. This is only when you’re unlucky with the RNG and need to buy these items. The Headless Horseman can drop some of them, reducing the amount to farm. Still, you can get whatever you miss next year.

Achievements in Hallow’s End

For those achievement hunters, there are 18 exclusive achievements to earn. 11 of those are needed for the ‘Hallowed be Thy Name’ achievement, namely:

  • Trick or Treat
  • Out With It
  • Bring Me The Head of… Oh Wait
  • The Savior of Hallow’s End
  • That Sparkling Smile
  • Rotten Hallow
  • G.N.E.R.D. Rage
  • Check Your Head
  • The Masquerade
  • Sinister Calling
  • Tricks and Treats of Azeroth

Generally, participating in the event should give you some of these achievements. Still, for the others, you must go out of your way to achieve. Some even depend on your luck. Other achievements are:

  • The Mask Task
  • A Mask for All Occasions
  • Tricks and Treats of Northrend
  • Tricks and Treats of the Cataclysm
  • Tricks and Treats of Pandaria
  • A Frightening Friend

These mentioned above are not needed for the Hallowed Be Thy Name achievement. They are easier to get, even if it takes a bit of effort to find all the Candy Buckets in Northrend, Cataclysm, and Pandaria. The locations are slightly different depending on the faction, but overlaps exist. There are map guides, too, if you can’t seem to find that last one to get the achievement.

Have Fun at Hallow’s End!

The event may only last two weeks, but the experiences and fun you have within them can be remembered. There are prizes to remind you of them, after all. Also, it is a yearly event, so there’s a second chance for anything you’ve missed.

Enjoy WoW Shadowlands and this event!
