Cyberpunk 2077 live action in the works?

Cyberpunk 2077 has been the source of material for various works like art and shows. After the release of the Phantom Liberty DLC, CD Projekt Red announced that the game will be getting its live adaptation. There’s little information about this, but we know everything about the upcoming project. 

Cyberpunk 2077 Live-Adaptation Confirmed

CD Projekt Red confirmed that a live action is being developed a few weeks after the release of Phantom Liberty. The project will partner with Anonymous Content, famous for churning out shows like True Detective and Mr. Robot. The developers have confirmed that the upcoming live adaptation is set in the same world and timeline as Cyberpunk 2077. 

Aside from these details, there has been no other information published. The release date or year was not specified. In addition, whether it would be a series or a movie was never confirmed, so we will have to wait for further announcements. The project may feature a completely different storyline while featuring familiar characters and places in the game. 

How Good Will the Live Adaptation Be?

We have very little info to accurately make predictions about the project. However, we can surmise that it would receive a certain degree of success based on another show. Edgerunners is a series set in the same universe as Cyberpunk 2077. The story is set a year before the game’s events and focuses on the adventures of David Martinez and his friends. 

It is highly alluded to that Edgerunners’ success contributed to the increasing popularity of Cyberpunk 2077. While it is a standalone story, it did feature familiar elements from the game, such as the Arasaka Corporation, the Militech Corporation, and the Maelstrom Gang. It also showcased some of the game’s themes, like the use of dangerous cybernetic implants and the social inequality dominating Night City.

What We Know About Anonymous Content

Anonymous Content is an established and well-respected company. They have produced various iconic movies and TV shows. Here are examples of some of their well-known project:

It took a while before devs could resolve the most urgent issues and gradually gain the community’s confidence. 

Phantom Liberty is seen as the complete revival of the game because it is the first major update it has received after the release. Cyberpunk 2077 was already gaining momentum due to Edgerunners, and devs had enough time to patch in fixes and improvements in the last two years. Phantom Liberty introduced new content for players to enjoy and highlighted the improvements the game has received since its release. The DLC is widely regarded as a game-changer for Cyberpunk 2077.

CD Projekt Red Other Upcoming Projects

Aside from the upcoming live adaptation, CD Projekt Red already announced several other projects currently in development. These games are set outside Cyberpunk 2077’s universe and will focus on other CDPR titles. It is unclear if CP77 will be receiving another DLC after Phantom Liberty. Here are some of the expected projects that will be released in the near future:
