Pawns are a vital aspect of Dragon’s Dogma 2 and will be your party members for the entirety of the game. However, they can also potentially make your life very difficult with the introduction of a new mechanic called Dragonplague. Many players wonder what they can do to alleviate this disease and save the game from potential ruin. Let’s discuss the mechanics of Dragonplague and how you can prevent this disease from spreading between the many NPCs.

Dragonplague Infection

Pawns are the only possible carriers of the disease as you can bring it to your save file in two ways: Hiring an infected Pawn from the Rift or by a Drake. Drakes are the primary source of Dragonplague. By grabbing a Pawn and entering a unique animation where the Drake stares down at the Pawn, the drakes infect them with the disease. What makes Dragonplague so hard to detect is that hired Pawns do not show any signs of the disease until it’s too late. Should the disease progress any further, every NPC in a major city, be it Vermund or Battahl, will die from Dragonplague, as the Pawn will transform into a shadowy dragon and kill everyone in the town. While NPCs can be revived, you will need to expend a Wakestone to resurrect every single dead NPC. You can also use an Eternal Wakestone to resurrect NPCs in a large AoE, which can be obtained by defeating the Sphinx. However, you can also completely prevent the spread of Dragonplague.

Dragonplague Symptoms and Prevention

There are a few mild symptoms that manifest in an infected Pawn. One way to detect it is by checking their eyes to see if they glow red. The effect is subtle, but infected Pawns will have glowing red eyes. Affected Pawns will also wince in pain from a random bout of headaches outside of combat. Another way to tell is if a Pawn starts to sound more defiant after giving them an order or outright refusing your commands. To prevent the spread of Dragonplague, you will have to dismiss the infected Pawn back into the Rift. If your main Pawn is affected, the quickest and easiest way to cure them is by killing them. Throw your main Pawn into the Brine, which will reset its state back to normal. Don’t worry about losing them since you can recall your main Pawn from any Rift, and you can continue your journey.

Dragonplague can easily ruin your save file and set you back a lot of progress, especially since many important NPCs will be dead. Prevention is the best cure for Dragonplague, and the best method of prevention is detecting the early symptoms of the disease.
