Want to Play Fortnite VR? Population: One is the Best Option Out There

Fortnite VR is Population: One

Population: One is basically Fortnite VR. Okay? Let’s just clear that up right now, before we even get into the article. Does that sound good? Good. Okay, let’s move on. Now, if you don’t know what Population: One is, or why it’s like Fortnite in VR, don’t you worry for a second. I got you covered. In this article, I’ll take you through everything you need to know about Population: One, including what it is and how to play, and I’ll explain the title. Let’s go!

What is Population: One, the ‘Fortnite VR’ Alternative?

Population: One is a Battle Royale game that came out on October 22, 2020. If you’ve never heard of it, don’t feel bad. This one flew below the radar for a lot of people, but that’s definitely changing. It’s a genuinely incredible game and it could be the biggest VR launch in recent times—all because of one super important change that makes it different from all the other Battle Royales: it’s in VR.

Before we get into it, here’s the basic principle of Population: One, the Sparknotes version. It’s got all the standard Battle Royale features that we’ve all come to expect. It has materials to loot, weapons to loot, an open world where you can explore to your hearts content (until the map starts to shrink and all the players are forced increasingly close), and so forth. Interestingly, it even has a building mechanic that’s pretty similar to Fortnite.

What’s the Best Way to Win in Population: One?

What allows this to happen is the Vertical Combat System, or VCS. If you want to get somewhere, you can thanks to this system, either by climbing, building, or, yes, flying. BigBox VR claims that there are limitless combat possibilities, and though that might be an exaggeration, it’s not that far from being true. You can do a ridiculous amount of stuff because of the high level of maneuverability, and in this game, he (or she) who stays vertical, wins.

Can You Play Population: One with Friends?

Absolutely. When we touted this as Fortnite VR, we meant it. So much of Fortnite has come into this game, and squads are not exception. In Population: One, you can form squads of three to take on the opposition and become the victors. Now, don’t just think of this as a copy-pasted Fortnite, because Population: One actually has added a lot of awesome features. It’s not all serious either, because you high-five squadmates after you come home with the win, shoot while gliding to spray and pray that dang terrain (or other players), or—my personal favorite—you can add an random teammate as a friend by just fist-bumping them. Just watch the trailer if you want to see the funky personality in this game.

Will Population: One VR Replace Fortnite?

It’s an interesting question, and unfortunately, it’s impossible to give a direct yes or no. But, I can say this: it’s unlikely that Population: One will replace Fortnite, and here’s why.

  • Fortnite has a massive fan base. Though Fortnite isn’t the hot new crazy that it once was, it still boasts an incredible audience, and a lot of them are die-hard fans that aren’t likely to jump to another thing. Fortnite has also had a long time to hone in their gameplay and style to fit their player base best.
  • Population: One is Fortnite VR. Basically, it’s very similar in terms of gameplay, but with that big difference. Some people aren’t going to like VR, just out of personal preference, and they will prefer the traditional way of playing games. Even if Population: One was better in every way, there will be a large holdout that don’t like playing in VR for whatever reason.
  • Population: One is mostly untested. Sure, it came out a while back, but it’s still a huge risk to make a Battle Royale in VR. It’s a huge risk indeed, but that means that there could be a huge payoff. This could redefine gaming as we know it, or just be another failed attempt to be the next big thing. Time will tell, but either way, the days of VR totally replacing traditional gaming is still a way off.

However, there are some counter points that suggest Population: One might actually replace Fortnite. Population: One is exciting. There’s really no way to replicate the sheer thrill of VR gaming, especially with something like this. VR is the way of the future. It’s taking off quite a bit, and Population: One might be the thing that jumpstarts it. Time will tell, but either way, it’ll be good for the gamer!

Conclusion

Population: One is Fortnite VR. It has so many of the original aspects, but with some extra parts thrown in for good measure, making it fun, dynamic, and fresh. If you have the ability, I’d highly recommend checking it out!

Until next time, get out there and have some fun!
