Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s release date is right around the corner; it won’t be long before we all get to play the next chapter in Peter Parker’s story. With Insomniac Games working again on their follow-up acclaimed PlayStation title in 2018, many expect great things from the superhero sequel. It’s been five years since the first game launched to critical acclaim, and with Miles Morales also receiving positive reviews, it’s impossible not to get hyped for Spider-Man 2.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 PS5 Release Date
Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man 2 is set to launch on October 20, 2023. The release date was already revealed during Summer Game Fest 2023.
Is there A Spider-Man 2 Xbox Series X Release Date?
Unlike its predecessor—Spider-Man—Spider-Man 2 will not be available on rival platforms or previous generation consoles at launch. Instead, Insomniac Games has stated that they focus exclusively on Sony’s current-gen hardware—the PlayStation 5. It’s expected that the game will eventually make its way to PC if we follow the pattern of other Sony exclusives that have made their way to Epic or Steam. However, it takes some time before it happens.
The first Spider-Man game initially launched on PS4 and was then remastered for the PS5. Meanwhile, Spider-Man: Miles Morales was released across both consoles simultaneously. With Spider-Man 2 only released for the PS5, it’s evident that Insomniac is ready to shift its gears toward Sony’s latest hardware indefinitely.
Spider-Man 2 New Gameplay Features to Expect
During the PlayStation Showcase on May 2023, Insomniac Games revealed some gameplay details for Spider-Man 2. For starters, you can freely swap between two characters—Peter Parker and Miles Morales—using a touch of a button during open-world gameplay, similar to GTA 5’s character-swapping feature.
According to Ryan Smith, the game director, while both heroes have things in common, they also have their own quirks, such as Miles being faster than Peter. So, being able to switch to whichever character you want in a scenario is always handy.
Like in the first game, suits offer unique abilities for traversal and combat purposes. For Spider-Man 2, you can expect plenty of new Spidey suits to choose from for Peter and Miles. Moreover, another layer of depth will be added to the feature. Each suit in the game will reportedly have a symbiote variant version. This allows our heroes to utilize Venom’s symbiote powers to their advantage. Dozens of unique powers could be used to mix things up like never before.
In terms of traversal, Miles and Peter will have wing suits, which have been confirmed to help you travel faster than in previous titles. You can use the suits to ride through air currents and chain them seamlessly with web-swinging.
Generally, from what’s been confirmed and what we’ve seen, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has a heavier emphasis on the raw power of suits and aggression of combat. The significant additions to the gameplay should also add new spins to the traversal system.
Spider-Man 2 Open World Map: It’s Bigger and Better
Spider-Man 2 will again be set in New York—specifically, on Manhattan Island. However, things have been expanded slightly. Bryan Intihar, Insomniac’s creative director, stated in an interview with Famitsu that the map will be about two times larger, thanks to the addition of Brooklyn and Queens.
Spider-Man 2 Story Trailer: What We Know So Far
In the game’s story trailer, Kraven can be seen leaving the jungle to hunt targets in New York, which is most likely where Spider-Man 2 kicks off. At this point, Peter Parker has a new symbiote suit and is already using it as part of his regular Spidey duties. Miles Markers is also back in action, who’s aware that the suit is slowly changing Peter. How all this links together remains to be seen, such as how Peter got a hold of the suit in the first place, but all will be revealed once the game releases.
If you remember the ending of Spider-Man, Harry Osbourne was suspended in a tank and surrounded by a symbiote. Venom will undoubtedly be an integral part of the game, but how things transition from Harry to Peter and then to Venom remains a mystery.
