Various NPCs in Lords of the Fallen often provide crucial assistance to players. One of the less inconspicuous characters is the Tortured Prisoner, who doesn’t offer much initially. However, gamers can discover how important this person is after they free her from her confinements. This guide will help players learn how to liberate the Tortured Prisoner.

Who is the Tortured Prisoner?

The Tortured Prisoner in Pilgrim’s Perch is a mysterious and valuable NPC. Initially imprisoned in a cell, she possesses unique abilities that could aid your journey through the game. You’ll only hear incoherent mumbling when you attempt to converse with her. Reaching her from her cell might seem impossible, but accessing her pyromancy skills and spells is essential.

The Tortured Prisoner is not just any NPC because, in reality, she is the Inferno Magic Vendor. You can buy things like pyro abilities from her or call her in combat. The vendor’s pyromancy spell offers are too valuable to ignore. As a summon, she is a skilled fire mage capable of unleashing powerful Inferno spells. These attacks can be useful in battles against tough bosses and enemies, so having her as an ally and spell vendor is a significant advantage.

Where Can You Find the Tortured Prisoner?

The Tortured Prisoner will be one place initially. However, she will move to another location once you free her from prison. Here is how to find the initial establishment of the Tortured Prisoner:

  • Go to the lowest levels of Pilgrim’s Perch. You can find the stairs down to the lower levels in the same area where you fight the first boss, the Great Horn.
  • Navigate through the maze-like corridors of the lower levels. Be careful of the enemies in this area.
  • Head up the spiral staircase once you’ve unlocked the hidden crypt using the Skyrest Bridge Key. You’ll discover the Tortured Prisoner inside a cell on the upper level. Despite her presence, she seems incoherent, and her cell remains sealed.

How to Free the Tortured Prisoner

Freeing the Tortured Prisoner is not an easy task. It will take more than just finding a key to open the cell. Here is a step-by-step guide on how you can free her:

  • Enter the Umbral Realm: Switch to the Umbral Realm to navigate the crypt.
  • Locate the Umbral Blockers: Search for three Umbral Blockers in the crypt’s main chamber. One is near the ladder adjacent to the Umbral Blocker. Another is across the bridge in the main section. The final one hides under the bridge in the main chamber. To access it, use Soulflay on the platform on the right side of the bridge. This will move it slightly closer for you to reach. Once you land on it, you can interact with the last Umbral blocker. After this, return the platform to its original position and exit.
  • Break All the Umbral Lockers: While on the moved platform, you’ll be in range to remove the first Umbral Blocker. Climb the ladder and Soulflay the creature near the roof to eliminate the second Umbral Blocker. Progress towards the spiral staircase in the main chamber and look up to spot the final soul flay object, the third Umbral Blocker.
  • Obtain the Searing Accusation: Once you’ve cleared all three Umbral Blockers, ascend the ladder by the wall next to the bridge. There, you’ll find another creature to Soulflay. Doing so lets you retrieve the Searing Accusation spell-casting item from the wall.
  • Free the Tortured Prisoner: Take the Searing Accusation item up the spiral stairs and present it to the Tortured Prisoner in her cell.

What Happens After Freeing the Tortured Prisoner

After delivering the item, rest in a safe area. Upon your return, you’ll notice that the Tortured Prisoner has moved from her cell. If she’s not there, try teleporting elsewhere or reloading your game. Her cell will be empty, but it leaves behind a helmet known as the “Tortured Prisoner’s Head Cage”.

From this point onward, you can locate the Tortured Prisoner outside Pieta’s boss arena, specifically on the Skyrest Bridge. She transforms into a trader, offering you the opportunity to purchase fire spells and a catalyst. Should you defeat the giant in the Lower City Slums boss battle, you’ll receive another quest to relocate her to Calrath City.

How to Summon the Tortured Prisoner

After being freed, the Tortured Prisoner can now be summoned in a fight. To call the Infernal Vendor to the battle, use the Pyromancer’s Bell found in the Tortured Prisoner’s cell in Pilgrim’s Perch. Equip and use the Pyromancer’s Bell to summon the Infernal Vendor. She will join the fight and stay with you until her defeat. The Infernal Vendor is a potent ally, particularly effective against foes resistant to fire.

What Does the Inferno Magic Vendor Offer

Once she has moved locations, players can browse the Inferno Magic Vendor’s offers. There are tons of skills and weapons just waiting to be bought. Here is what you can purchase from the Inferno Magic Vendor:

Spells

  • Conflagration: A potent flamethrower spell dealing significant damage.
  • Fiery Blast: A projectile spell causing an explosive fire burst on impact.
  • Fire Wall: Generates a damaging wall of fire for those who cross it.
  • Immolation: Forms a protective ring of fire, hurting nearby enemies.
  • Inferno: Summons a devastating meteor, inflicting widespread fire damage.

Catalysts

  • Inferno Catalyst: Enables the casting of Inferno spells.
  • Pyromancer’s Bell: Calls the Infernal Vendor for aid in battle.
  • Descrier Armor Set: Fire-resistant armor to shield against fire damage.

These mighty spells and items are more than enough reason why you should free the Tortured Prisoner. Aside from her excellent wares, she also becomes one of your most powerful allies in the game. Make sure to liberate the prisoner once you have unlocked her imprisoned area.
