The long-running MMORPG RuneScape is just as relevant to the genre as it was on release nearly two decades ago. With plenty of community support, updates, and much more still coming to the game, there are still many reasons to explore RuneScape. One of these reasons is the title’s recent transition to the mobile platform.

Mobile gaming represents the largest gaming audience in the world in terms of numbers of people playing. Therefore, the next logical step for the MMO would be to bring the evergreen experience to mobile devices. As the game makes the transition, there are a few burning questions that you may be looking for answers to:

  • When did the game become available in early access?
  • What is the Founder’s Pack?
  • What lies ahead for the mobile version of the game?

With that in mind, here is everything we know about the Early Access of RuneScape Mobile.

When was RuneScape Mobile Early Access Made Available?

RuneScape Mobile entered Early Access for Android back in October 2019. This meant those who owned anything Android were able to take their adventure on the go wherever they went. It was made available to all RuneScape subscribers, granting them access to the Mobile Founder’s pack. Players were also given a pet, armour set and emote for their handheld version of the game.

Now, Jagex have opened up early access to the beta to everyone on Android! That’s right, you don’t even need to be a member to start traversing Gielinor by mobile. As of May 11th, RuneScape mobile will also be available to everyone on iOS!

RuneScape mobile was originally announced at RuneFest 2019, where Jagex announced their intentions to bring RuneScape to mobiles. To do so, they would make changes to the interface, menus, and hotbars to make the transition as seamless as possible. The game is also cross-platform, meaning you can play with PC players if you choose to. Not only that, but you can also take your progress into the mobile version also. This way, you can receive push notifications to keep you updated with skill training and much more.

What is the Founder’s Pack?

As mentioned earlier, those who choose to opt for RuneScape mobile were offered a Founder’s Pack. The first three sets of the packs were rewarded to players within the Android open beta after gaining access. Only particular Android devices were able to house the pack, though they will be coming to the iOS release. More on that later though.

Within the first set of the pack players were given Radiant Dawn armour, as well as a Steel Panther pet. There was also 15 Treasure Hunter keys and an Immobile Rest animation override available in the first pack. In early November, we saw the release of the second set of rewards. This included double daily Treasure Hunter keys for a week, as well as four large Protean packs. A week after the release of the second pack came the third. This one offered 25 Treasure Hunter keys, plus a huge lamp chest.

RuneScape Mobile iOS Release Date

iOS users – rejoice! Jagex have announced that RuneScape will be coming to your pockets on May 11th 2020.

It was just over a month ago where we got a sneak peek at how RuneScape would run on iOS. We can’t wait to get our fingers on it.

Is it Worth Playing?

Perhaps the most important question of all. The release of RuneScape mobile was something that was highly anticipated by the community, and with that anticipation comes expectation. After all, it offered one of the most groundbreaking MMORPG titles on the market to a whole new platform, one that is immensely populated.

To go into detail on all things RuneScape as a PC game may seem redundant in these circumstances, but rather discussing how it transitions to mobile is well worth discussing. One particular notice that I particularly found useful was the use of the touch screen, which was something I was curious about when it comes to being a replacement to the traditional use of the mouse. Any concerns were soon put to rest, as the touch screen mechanic proved to be a handy alternative, allowing freedom of movement with a single press of the finger.

What’s possibly most important about this version is its accessibility, which arguably lives and dies by its interface. Thankfully, it is easy enough for you to navigate to the extent that you can sell goods, focus on levelling and so much more on your daily commute. It’s simple to use, especially when it comes to using tabs, which can open and close with a couple of taps.

Ultimately, if you have enjoyed the RuneScape experience so far on PC, and are looking to take the game with you out and about, then there is no reason to hesitate as far as the mobile version is concerned. It’s a great starting place for new players too, since it isn’t really any more difficult to pick up than it would be on PC.

What Does the Future Hold for RuneScape Mobile?

There is certainly a lot to look forward to in RuneScape, regardless of what platform you are on. Last year’s RuneFest seem to lay down an exciting road map of new quests, dungeons and more coming to the game.

As far as the mobile version goes, the development team are working hard on bringing Early Access to iOS, which is expected to release this year. Android users gained access to all Founder’s Packs back in October, and this version of the game is still being subjected to patches to make it the best experience possible. If you are waiting for RuneScape Mobile on iOS, then hopefully you won’t be itching to play much longer.
